Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Aug. 30 / Trend D.Azizov /

Uzbek Senate (upper house of parliament) ratified at a plenary session on Thursday the Treaty on Long-Term Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries (Bishkek, August 16, 2007).

Law on the Ratification of the treaty was passed by the Legislative - the lower house of parliament on August 8, 2012 and submitted for approval in the Senate on August 9.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Sadiq Safayev said "the treaty should serve as the fundamental basis of the relationship between the SCO member countries".

The treaty meets the national interest of the peoples of the the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, promotes the cause of peace and stability in the SCO, and creates a legal basis for joint efforts to effectively confront the modern challenges and threats to security.

Law on ratification of the agreement is in the interests of Uzbekistan and does not require any amendments to the existing laws of the country, the chairman of the Senate Committee noted.

Safayev said that the original priorities of the SCO were to preserve peace and stability in the region and the main efforts since the organization were aimed at combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.

The document establishes the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of the SCO countries, peaceful resolution of differences and disputes, as well as mutual respect in choosing the path of political, economic, social and cultural development, according to national circumstances of each state.

Agreements fixed in the document also reflect the common desire of SCO member states to give new quality and dynamics to multilateral cooperation in areas such as the expansion of economic cooperation, the deepening of relations in the field of culture, education, health, and science.
