BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Uzbekistan has announced the resumption of electricity supply to its southern neighbor Afghanistan, Trend reports via the press service of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

According to the source, electricity supplies from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan are scheduled to resume on January 25.

The statement said that due to the growing cold in Uzbekistan, some problems have arisen with the provision of fuel at thermal power plants, in particular fuel shortages and various malfunctions, as well as stable consumers of the country. As a result, the supply of electricity to Afghanistan has been temporarily suspended.

Furthermore, amid increasing cold in Uzbekistan, the country was forced to increase importing volumes of electricity from Tajikistan to provide light to the country’s Surkhandarya region. Some 220 kV of electricity was supplied to Uzbekistan's Surkhandarya region from the Tajik "Regar-500" substation through the L-Regar-Zarchop and L-Regar-Sherabad lines.
