BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. A total of 1.4 billion cubic feet (about 39.6 million cubic meters) of flared gas produced along with crude oil from oil fields west and east of the Karun River in southern Iran will be collected at most over the next 3 years, Iran's deputy oil minister and executive director of the National Company of Petrochemical Industries of Iran Morteza Shahmirzaei said, Trend reports.
He made the remark during the event organized in connection with the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the development of 16 gas fields.
According to him, after processing this flare gas, the methane will be supplied to the country's gas network, and the +C2 product will be supplied as feedstock to petrochemical plants.
The official stated that four projects are underway by Gulf Gas Processing Company Bid-Boland, Gulf Hoveyzeh, the NGL-3100 plant, and Maroon Petrochemical Company to collect flare gas from oil fields located east and west of the Karun River.
Meanwhile, about 50 million cubic meters of flare gas are flared daily in Iran. Currently, Iran collects more than 20 million cubic meters of flare gas daily.
To note, Iran's flare gases will be fully collected by March 20, 2026, and Iran's revenue from flare gas collection will be $2 billion.
The Karun is Iran's sole navigable river and also has the largest water flow. It is 950 kilometers long. The Karun originates in the Zard Kuh mountains of the Bakhtiari area in the Zagros Range and receives numerous tributaries, including the Dez and the Kuhrang.
