ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 30. Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) plans to repair over 1,400 km of railway tracks in 2024, Trend reports.
According to KTZ, the same large amount of work was carried out last year, which is twice the level of 2022.
Thus, work on repairing railway tracks this year began in March. At the same time, more than 570 km of railway will be renovated with the complete replacement of the rail and sleeper grid.
Major repairs of railway tracks first began in the south and west of Kazakhstan.
In addition to this, by 2029, KTZ plans to repair 11,000 kilometers of railway sections.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 326.8 billion ton-kilometers, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
