BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. British American Tobacco (BAT) established its office in Kazakhstan more than 20 years ago, creating jobs for almost 1,000 employees and supporting 17,500 small and medium-sized Kazakhstan businesses, a source at BAT Kazakhstan told Trend.

"BAT, founded in 1902 and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, is a significant consumer goods company that operates in multiple categories. Our goal is to build a smokeless world where smokers can "switch to better' by switching from cigarettes to smokeless alternatives. BAT opened an office in Kazakhstan more than 20 years ago, employing around 1,000 people and assisting 17,500 small and medium-sized businesses. BAT imports tobacco and nicotine-containing products in Kazakhstan but does not have a production unit. As an importer, BAT Kazakhstan brings products to Kazakhstan and markets them internally," the source said.

According to the source, BAT’s HR approach helps to grow world-class professionals in Kazakhstan by providing equal opportunities, driving entrepreneurial behavior, and developing the next generation of leaders in Kazakhstan.

"We value our workers' diversity and are committed to establishing an engaging culture in which individuals and teams may succeed. We provide a safe working environment, and by focusing on ESG areas, we achieve a good social impact for both our employees and those in our supplier chain. Since 2019, BAT Kazakhstan has consistently obtained the international Top Employer designation, which analyzes working conditions in the major enterprises around the world," the source noted.
