SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 27. Uzbekistan and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) have reached an agreement to initiate several joint projects totaling $3.3 billion, including 5 non-sovereign projects slated for this year, Trend reports.
This was announced during a meeting between Uzbekistan's Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov, and EDB Chairman Nikolai Podguzov, held on the sidelines of the recently concluded 9th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Podguzov emphasized that Uzbekistan remains a key partner for the EDB in the region and shared plans to include several major countries as shareholders soon.
Additionally, a country office of the EDB is set to open in Tashkent by the end of the year to enhance collaboration and expedite financing for priority projects.
Podguzov also indicated that Uzbekistan may join the EDB by the end of 2024.
"I can say that now, having already received Uzbekistan's application to join the bank, Uzbekistan's participation in the bank will be approximately 10 percent. We hope that this year all legal issues related to the accession will be completed," he said.
