Student Demonstration isn’t of Political Character: Vice President of Iran (Video)

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend D.Khatinoglu / The Vice President of Iran, Mahommadjavad Aliakbari, considers that the protest action of the students in Iran is not of political character. "Several sources of media try to politicize it. The protest is linked with the small demands," Aliakbari reported to Trend on 30 October.

In October the students held three protest actions in the Technical University of Tehran and University named after Amir Kabir. Several local and foreign sources of media state that the slogans were of political character and required democracy. Aliakbari did not say what measures the Government will take with regards to these requirements. In addition, he refused to comment on the closing of the office of the student organization 'Tehkim-Vahdet' and arrest of its several members.

The Chairman of 'Tehkim-Vahdet', Mohammad Hasemi, reported to Trend that repression took place at Tehran University on 7 October. According to him, they made two written appeals to the President. "During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's term as the President of Iran, 550 active students were invited to the defense organization of the University, several of them have been temporarily arrested and dismissed from the University, three students have been sentenced to seven years imprisonment. In addition, we protested against closing 130 student publications and office of 'Tehkim-Vahdet'," he said.

The chairman of Organization of Student Activists of Iran, Navid Minaee, reported to Trend that on 30 October one more protest action took place at the University.
