The U.N. Security Council is completely discredited and its image has suffered, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchohr Mottaki was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency.
"Unfortunately, the U.N. Security Council has allowed some countries to possess nuclear weapons over the past four years," he said.
The U.N. Security Council adopted a resolution imposing new sanctions on Iran over its refusal to suspend its uranium enrichment activities Wednesday.
The council's 12 members expressed support for the document. Turkey and Brazil voted against the initiative and Lebanon abstained.
This is the fourth U.N. Security Council resolution related to Tehran's unwillingness to comply with international demands regarding its nuclear program.
