Baku, Azerbaijan, July 22

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: No reformate has been used for producing gasoline by petrochemical units in Iran since the last Iranian fiscal year (March 2014), said Mohsen Momeni, spokesman of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company.

Reformate is a high-octane gasoline blending component. It enables economic production of high-octane lead-free gasoline. However, the benzene content in reformate was identified as the most significant contributor to cancer risk.

Momeni rejected some media reports about using reformate in domestically produced gasoline, Iran 's Shana news agency reported July 22.

Overhaul operations at Shazand, Abadan, Isfahan, and Tabriz refineries have been completed which has allowed the domestic production of gasoline to reach 65 million liters per day, he noted.

The country imports gasoline meeting euro-4 standards and it lacks any octane boosting substances, such as manganese and iron, he said.

That was while Hossein Amiri Khamkani, the spokesman of the energy Commission of the Iranian parliament, said less than 40 percent of gasoline, which is supplied to the Iranian market, meets euro-4 standards.

Khamkani added that 19 million liters of domestically produced euro-4 gasoline is being supplied to the domestic market and 6.5 million liters of euro-4 gasoline is being imported, while the country's daily gasoline consumption is about 70 million liters.
