By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran exported $3.6 million worth of furniture during the first three months of current fiscal year (March 20-June 20), Mohammad Bazari, an official with Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, said.

The figure indicates a rise by 33.3 percent as compared to the same period of preceding year, Bazari said, IRIB news agency reported Aug. 11.

However, he added, the increase in Iran’s furniture export is below the country’s capacities.

Supply of raw materials is the most important challenge that Iranian furniture producers are facing, he said, adding if the problem is resolved the ground will be prepared to compete with foreign products, especially Chinese and Turkish furniture.

Iraq, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, Afghanistan, Kuwait, the UAE, Malaysia, Spain, Australia and Austria are the main targets for Iran’s furniture export.

Iran’s furniture market turnover stands at $5.7 billion per year, according to latest official statistics.
