Cities in Iran facing 'tense' situation with amount of available water

TEHRAN, Iran, June 7

Trend:

Iran's dam reservoirs face a possible shortage of 28 percent of water, while improving water consumption could improve the situation, said Iran's Deputy Energy Minister Ghasem Taghizadeh Khamesi.

He went on to say that the situation with the reservoirs has improved due to rainfalls in the past two years, and despite shortage, Iran is able to provide the drinking water needs.

"There is no problem with the drinking water supply in the current Iranian year (started March 21,2021), and we do not seek cut down on use of water," he said.

"There are currently around 153 cities that have some issues with use of water, but it doesn't mean we will cot down use of water there. If the consumption of water isn't over the existing capacity, it will be fine," said Khamesi.

"Tehran has the least decline of water pressure and is the only city that had positive raining volume, the dams are in good situation," he said.
