Iran to export of aquatic products to neighboring countries by rail

Aquatic products will be exported via rail in current Iranian year (ends on March 21, 2022), the director general of Seafood Quality Improvement, Processing and Market Promotion Department with Iran Fisheries Organization said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"We are looking to use rail infrastructure to export fishery products by the end of the current Iranian year,” the director general of Seafood Quality Improvement, Processing and Market Promotion Department with Iran Fisheries Organization Isa Golshahi said.

He went on to note the exporting potential of Iranian fishery products through rail infrastructure from the north of the country (Astara) to Azerbaijan and Russia, from the northeast to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and China and from the west to Turkey and Syria.

Pointing out to the air transport for aquatic exports, he says that “Air transport is costly and is usually used for fresh and high value-added products.

"We use air transport for fresh fish, shrimp products and caviar to Arab countries and sometimes Russia."

Golshahi added that the export of fresh fishery products through maritime transport is also done to Arab countries.

According to IRNA, in the first quarter of the current Iranian year, more than 28,000 tons of aquatic species were exported, which shows an increase of 12 percent in weight and 9 percent in value compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the first quarter of the current year, about $ 52 million of aquatic species were exported to different countries, including 85 tons of ornamental fish, exported to the countries such as Iraq, Turkey and Europe, which showed growth of 608 percent in terms of weight and 200 percent in value compared to the same period Last year.
