By Fatih Karimov – Trend:
The special unit of the ground forces of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) called “Saberin” participated in the final stage of a massive military drill ongoing in eastern part of the country, Tasnim news agency reported Feb. 22.
Saberin is a special unit of the IRGC, established in 2000. It has been involved in military operations against several armed opposition groups in Iran's north-western and south-eastern borders.
The special unit is also involved in clashes against "extremists" in Iraq and Syria.
At the final stage of the drill dubbed “Peyambar-e Azam” (the great prophet)ç the IRGC units launched defensive operations against the hypothetical enemy positions with heavy artillery fire and advanced
rockets capable of hitting spot targets with high accuracy.
The IRGC’s drones also carried out reconnaissance operations at the last day of the three-day war game.
Iran has held a number of major military drills over the past several years to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces.
The Islamic Republic says its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
