By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Georgia is likely to increase the production of table grapes in the upcoming years, given the good current prices, Trend reports, citing the EastFruit report.

According to EastFruit, Georgia increased exports of table grapes due to its growing popularity among manufacturers.

Georgia exported more table grapes in September 2021, than over the previous seven years combined, the report said.

In total, Georgia exported 530 tons of table grapes worth $403,000 in September 2021.

According to the statistics, the main importer of Georgian table grapes was Russia, with 98 percent share of the exports. The remaining 2 percent accounted for Qatar. According to foreign trade data, the average price per ton was $760.

Russia purchased Georgian table grapes for $740 per ton, while the average price for grapes shipped to Qatar was $2,000 per ton.

The popularity of table grapes in Georgia has increased in recent years, but about 99 percent of all grapes produced are still for wine production.

“Producers of table grapes on average receive 1.5-3 times more per kilogram than producers of wine grapes. This ratio increases even more if we calculate the prices that can be obtained when exporting to countries such as Qatar,” EastFruit said.
