Eight members of an Islamist fundamentalist group were arrested in Lebanon Tuesday for distributing leaflets in support of protestors in Syria, a security source told Xinhua.
Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested four members of Hizb al- Tahrir (Liberation Party) in the southern coastal city of Sidon as they distributed leaflets in support of Syrian opposition movements, said the source.
Four other Islamist activists were arrested in the northern city of Tripoli as they too tried to distribute similar leaflets, the security source added.
The leaflets that were posted throughout Tripoli called for a solidarity demonstration with the Syrian protesters in the northern Lebanese city on Friday.
Ties between Syria and Lebanon have been spoiled as Damascus accused some Lebanese of supporting anti-government protests in Syria.
