Strong quake hits Japan's northeast region

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 jolted Japan's Tohoku region on Tuesday, Xinhua reported according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
  
The focus of the quake, which occurred at 16:37 p.m. (0737 GMT), was 40 kilometers underground in Miyagi Prefecture. The quake was strongly felt in Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures.
  
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property, and no tsunami warning was issued.
