Two people were killed in an attack on the Baksan hydropower plant in the southern Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus, a law enforcement source said, RIA Novosti reported.

Two people were killed in an attack on the Baksan hydropower plant in the southern Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus, a law enforcement source said, RIA Novosti reported.

"At about 5:20 a.m. a group of unknown people burst into the Baksan hydropower plant in the village of Islamei and shot two security guards," the source said.

"Then the unknown assailants made two explosions in the territory of the plant," the source said, adding that the generator was damaged.

A spokesman for RusHydro, the company managing the hydropower plant, and North Caucasus law enforcers said it could be a terrorist attack.
