2 killed, 46 surrender in NW Pakistan

At least two people have been killed and at least 46 militants have surrendered to security forces in the Khyber and Bajaur agencies in northwest Pakistan.

Officials told Press TV that a Pakistani soldier and a civilian were killed when security forces clashed with militants in the main market of Bara town of Khyber Agency on Friday.

In another development, at least 46 militants, including four important commanders, have surrendered to the security forces in the Sadiqabad, Samai, and Ghundai areas of Khar Tehsil on Friday.

Northwest Pakistan has recently experienced a surge in violence, with militants frequently staging attacks from bases along the border with Afghanistan.

And since July 2007, over 1,500 people have lost their lives in a wave of bombings across Pakistan.
