At the Eleventh Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the temporary presidency of the organization moved from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Turkish President Abdullah Gul, the Turkish newspaper Zaman reported.
Today, Istanbul hosts the 11th Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the ECO. Prior to this, Istanbul hosted the meeting of senior officials and the meeting of the Council of Ministers of ECO on Dec.21-23.
ECO was founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Today the organization also includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
