TANAP and Nabucco West are perfect fit for the realization of the Southern Gas Corridor, Wolfgang Sporrer, regional manager of Caspian region in Austrian OMV company, said at the 19th International Oil and Gas Conference in Baku on Thursday.

"Nabucco West is the economic viable project to open the Southern Gas Corridor with the Shah Deniz II gas," Sporrer said.

Sporrer said that OMV, which is one of Nabucco consortium shareholders, believes that Nabucco West is the project that is able to meet all EU's main energy targets.

According to Sporrer, security of supplies and diversification issues are very high on the EU's agenda.

Sporrer stressed that the requirements for the Southern Gas Corridor should be adapted to new realities, and the project implemented within Southern Gas Corridor should be swift, strategic, flexible in markets and flexible in capacity. According to Sporrer, only Nabucco West is able to meet all these requirements.

"Nabucco West is swift, has fully harmonized regulatory legal framework inherited from Nabucco base case. Project support agreements have been concluded in all countries," Sporrer said. We are ready to start construction as the Shah Deniz consortium decision is in place."

"We believe that Nabucco West finally brings together strategic interests of shareholders, European consumers and bring together interests of producers," Sporrer added.

The Southern Gas Corridor is a major energy project for the EU. It is intended to diversify routes and sources of supply. It is aimed at ensuring EU energy security.

Nabucco is one of the Southern Gas Corridor projects, which is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region and Middle East to the European countries. Gas to be produced within the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas field development is considered as the main source for the project.
The current shareholders of Nabucco project are Bulgarian Energy Holding, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas, Austrian OMV, German RWE and Hungary's FGSZ.
