The prospects for Georgia's integration into NATO have been discussed by acting Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and NATO's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai at a meeting in Tbilisi.

"NATO continues supporting Georgia's territorial integrity," Appathurai told media after the meeting.

He said that Georgia will join NATO.

"My main message is that NATO will continue working with Georgia," he said. "We agree on a decision made in Bucharest that Georgia will become a NATO member. We will also continue supporting Georgia's territorial integrity."

Appathurai assessed the recent elections in Georgia, saying that Georgia has set an example for young democratic countries.

"This is a historic moment for Georgia because there was a truly democratic transfer of power," he said. "The elections were a test for Georgia in the eyes of the international community."

Vashadze said that despite the change of power in Georgia, the direction toward European integration and NATO membership remains unchanged. "This is the people's choice. Nobody can change it."

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 1. Around 14 parties and two political blocs participated in the elections.

According to full the preliminary data of the Georgian Central Election Commission, the Georgian Dream coalition received 85 seats in the parliament, and the United National Movement, 65.

The leader of the Georgian Dream coalition has introduced new candidates for ministerial posts in the new Georgian government.
