Azerbaijani CEC Approves Nomination  of Two More Presidential Contenders

Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 August / Trend   corr. E.Babayev /  On 18 August, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) confirmed the nomination of two more people for presidential elections, including Teymur Guliyev, advisor of Madaniyyet (Culture) newspaper, and Suleyman Guliyev, the editor-in-chief of Ekspertiza (Examination) newspaper.

Number of presidential contenders, confirmed by CEC, reached 14. The CEC registered the candidatures of the chairman of the governing New Azerbaijan Party and current President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting held on 16 August.

So far, the CEC have confirmed the candidatures of the chairman of the Greens Party Mais Gulaliyev, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Unified Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of the Muasir Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Fuad Aliyev and the chairman of the Umid Party Igbal Agazade, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, the former chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party Supreme Assembly, Yashar Ahmadov (an unemployed person), Alimukhtar Akbarov (a pensioner), Sevinj Guliyeva (a junior nurse at the Sumgayit Central Clinic Hospital), Vugar Seyidov (a doctor) and Gudrat Isagov (a senior scientist of the Physics Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences). Within ten days, the presidential contenders should collect more than 40,000 signatures to be registered by the CEC

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October
