Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 August / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The format of Democratic Election Centre (DEC) of opposition parties in Azerbaijan will be changed.
"Parties, united in DEC, cannot either take part in the upcoming presidential elections. The organization will become centre of cooperation of parties, which will boycott the elections," Zalimkhan Mammadli, chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Classical Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA), which united in DEC, told Trend .
In January 2008, nine opposition parties - CPFPA, Azadlig, National Democratic, Great Establishment, Popular Front of United Azerbaijan, Great Azerbaijan, Open Society, Takammul and Green Party of Azerbaijan took a decision to establish Democratic Election Centre. Gudrat Hasnguliyev, chairman of Popular Front of United Azerbaijan Party, and Mais Gulaliyev, chairman of the Green Party of Azerbaijan, have nominated their candidatures to the presidential post. The rest seven parties took a decision not to participate at the presidential elections.
According to Mammadli, DEC does not stick to successful and principal position. "Centre's key aim is to democratize the Election Code and pre-election situation, as well," he said.
Gulaliyev told Trend that if the party would leave DEC, there would rouse any no problem. "It was expected that the parties represented in DEC would take a final decision regarding the organization's future activity. However, the discussions failed to implement due to different work schedules," Gulaliyev said.
Gulaliyev supports cooperation within any organization. If the Green Party would be removed from DEC, Gulaliyev would not feel regret.
