During the visit to the U.S. director of the Center for Strategic Research (CSR) at the President of Azerbaijan Elkhan Nuriyev participated in the International Symposium on "Prevention and Management of Conflict Situations in the Investment Relations in the Sphere of Energy and Other Natural Resources" held in the Center for Energy, Maritime Transportation and Public Policy at Columbia University in New York on May 12-13.
On May 13, head of CSR delivered a keynote address at the first session of the international forum "Broad Policy Dialogue: Global and Regional Initiatives in Search of a Shared Vision", the CRC press service said.
In his report the CSR explained the reason for Azerbaijan's balanced international policy and brought to the attention of the participants that the country wants closer cooperation with a view to a just solution to existing conflicts for sake of development and prosperity of all countries.
During the forum Elkhan Nuriyev met with the Dean of the School of International and Public Relations (SIPA) John Kotsvors. The dean expressed great interest in developing relations with Azerbaijani think tanks and universities in the sphere of education and policy research. He noted that Columbia University can provide assistance to Azerbaijan for training in public administration and policy and the exchange of experience between scientists engaged in research work. John Kotsvors also expressed hope for more active participation of Azerbaijani students to obtain academic degrees at the School of International and Public Relations.
On May 16, Columbia University in collaboration with the Center for Energy, Maritime Transportation and Public Policy will hold a conference The First Pax Trucica devoted to the 91st anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
As part of the visit to the United States, Nuriyev is expected to deliver a speech at think tanks of the country on issues of foreign policy, its role in world energy security and the Karabakh problem.
