Stability in the South Caucasus is an important component of universal European security, State Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Bogdan Aurescu believes.
Romania supports efforts of NATO countries on deep cooperation with the Southern Caucasus countries, Aurescu said at the workshop on "NATO in 21st century, tasks of 21st century" in Baku which was organized as part of the NATO weeks in Azerbaijan on June 9.
One of the NATO priorities is to cooperate with the Southern Caucasus, Southern Europe and Central Asia, by using new and flexible methods.
He said the Southern Caucasus countries must be used for common prosperity. And Azerbaijan connects various geo-strategic interests, he said.
As a member of NATO and the EU, Romania is committed to strengthening regional ties, Aurescu said.
"We look forward to working with our partners on specific projects, and we must become a bridge to ensure stability in the region," the State Secretary said.
