The Foreign Ministers of the "Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM" countries, including Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova have discussed further cooperation under the organization in New York.
The foreign ministers have debated the issues of regional cooperation, ensuring peace and stability, as well as political and intersectorial cooperation, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend .
The ministers have met as part of the participation in the UN General Assembly.
New York also hosted GUAM-U.S. and GUAM-Czech Republic meetings.
Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined this format, but after 4 years, quitted. In 2006, the first summit of this format in Kiev decided to declare GUAM an international organization with a new name: "Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM".
