Iranian president to attend CICA summit in China

Iranian president will attend the forth Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit to be held in China.

Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to visit Shanghai next month to attend the summit, Iranian ISNA news agency reported on April 26.

The CICA is an inter-governmental forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. It is a forum based on the recognition that there is close link between peace, security and stability in Asia and in the rest of the world.

The idea of convening the CICA was first proposed by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on October 5 1992, at the 47th Session of the UN General Assembly.

CICA currently has 24 member states. Azerbaijan, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, China, Egypt, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, South Korea, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Bahrain, Cambodia, Vietnam and Uzbekistan are among the CICA members.

Rouhani is scheduled to meet with some officials who will participate in the meeting including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
