Commissions in Azerbaijan to destroy illegally trafficked drugs - decree

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. Azerbaijan has set up commissions to destroy psychotropic medicines, narcotic drugs, and their precursors retrieved from illicit circulation or confiscated, Trend reports.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed the relevant decree "On the application of law No. 1197-VIQD of Azerbaijan dated June 28, 2024, on amendments to the law of Azerbaijan on the circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors'" and making amendments to some presidential decrees in this regard.

The decree determined that the powers of the relevant executive authority, provided for in the first and second sentences of Article 32.2 of the law "On the circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors" will be exercised by the President.

The destruction of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, seized from illegal circulation or confiscated in accordance with the first sentence of Article 32.2 of the law, will be carried out by the following commissions:

The Commission for the Destruction of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, and Their Precursors in Large and Especially Large Quantities, formed by the State Commission for Combating Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Trafficking; The Commission of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the Destruction of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, and Their Precursors in Large and Especially Large Quantities in the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, formed by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic; District (City) Commissions for the Destruction of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, and Their Precursors in Small and Significant Quantities, formed by local executive authorities.

Additionally, the head of state signed a law on the implementation of the corresponding decree.
