BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 20. Nathalie Loiseau, the French Member of the European Parliament, has been waving the flag for Armenia for quite some time now, Azerbaijani MP Tural Ganjaliyev said in a statement to Trend.
Ganjaliyev accused Loiseau of defamation and remarks made against Azerbaijan's return to its territorial integrity during the most recent session of the European Parliament.
The MP pointed out that Loiseau yet again brought up matters tied to bygone conflicts, asserting that Armenians supposedly endured "ethnic cleansing" in Karabakh. He claimed that her words are like throwing fuel on the fire, pushing Armenia to chase after old scores and stirring the pot of rising tensions.
"Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, ending the presence of Armenian armed forces on its territory and eradicating separatism," he emphasized.
He painted Loiseau's recent statements as a thorn in the side of peace, a wrench in the works of tranquility, and a fly in the ointment of prosperity in the South Caucasus.
According to Ganjaliyev, a number of MEPs have been involved in a campaign of defamation against Azerbaijan because they refuse to acknowledge the return of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
"Nathalie Loiseau's statements that Armenians allegedly ‘were subjected to ethnic cleansing in Karabakh’ contribute to the incitement of revanchism in Armenia and deal a blow to the creation of a constructive environment in the post-conflict period. Such a position by Nathalie Loiseau and the European Parliament as a whole is unacceptable. The newly elected MEPs, not lagging behind their predecessors, are also participating in a campaign to denigrate Azerbaijan, as if competing," the MP said.
He called on Loiseau to focus on European matters, especially French domestic politics and French colonial policies, rather than interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.
"It is well known that France has advocated for democracy and human rights in Karabakh and abroad while violating them at home. Hypocrisy is seen in France's colonial colonies like New Caledonia and Martinique, when French authorities violate citizens' rights and shoot on protesters. I urge Nathalie Loiseau to be more constructive in the European Parliament and not interfere in Azerbaijan's domestic affairs," he asserted.
