In January to August of 2005 the commercial transportation made up 81.6 million tons, or 7.6% up as compared to 2004.

Automobile transport ranked as the first in the structure of cargo transportation. 56.7% of total cargo transportation (with 7.1%-rise) fell on private sector, 46.3 million tons. The share of public sector comprised 43.3% of the total cargo turnover, or 35.4 million tons of cargo with a rise of 8.3%.

In January to August cargo turnover of the transport sector grew 11.0% as compared to 2004 and made up 16.7 billion to/km. The railway transportation played considerable role in entire transportation. Special weight of railway transport in cargo transportation comprised 35.9% of the total with a rise of 22.5%, shipping rose 5.1% and automobile вЂ" 7.8%.

The aggregate amount of passenger transportation grew 4.5% and made 655.1m men. In his period 84.7% of passengers used automobile transport, 15.5% used metro.

The passenger transportation in this period comprised 9.7 billion passenger per km, or 6.3% more as compared to 2004.

In this period the cargo transportation and cargo turnover by automobiles with consideration of physical entities reached 44.1 million tons and 4.7 billion ton/km, rising by 6.5% and 7.8% respectively. The passenger transportation by automobile grew 4% and wasequal to 555.0m people.

In January to May the railway transportation grew 19.2% to 16 million tons. Oil and oil products transported via the main oil pipelines comprised 74.1% of the total, while the construction materials вЂ" 19.5%. The cargo turnover rose 22.5% to 5.2 billion tons/km. The Azerbaijan State Railway Department opened a new tourist route Baku-Novorossiysk. 8,749 million tons of oil and oil products were transported in tis period, which was 24.8% more than 2004.

The cargo shipping comprised 8.9 million tons with a drop of 2.8%. It was linked with a bar laid on passage of five Azerbaijani vessels in the Russian internal waters. 73.8% of cargo deliveries fell on oil and oil products. The cargo turnover grew 5.1%, comprising 4.8 billion ton/km. Passenger transportation dropped by 16.8%.

In this period oil transportation via oil pipelines rose 5.5% as compared to 2004 and comprised 8.0 million tons. Meanwhile, gas transportation via main oil pipelines made up 6.3 million cu m of natural gas, or 8.6% up as compared to 2004. 51.8% of entire gas transportation fell on the Russian import. The cargo turnover of the main oil pipelines fell 1.8%.

Passengers transportation via airways grew 10.4% and 798,000 people, including 6% implemented by private sector.

Metro remains to be the popular and profitable. The passenger transportation by this transportation grew 8.1% as compared to 2004 and comprised 95.3 million people. However, the transportation via trolley busses reduced 52.6% and was equal to 458,700 people.
