Gold for Ishii but Tong denies Japanese a double

Satoshi Ishii took judo gold in the men's +100- kilogram division Friday while in the women's event China's Tong Wen prevented a Japanese double by beating Maki Tsukada in the +78kg category, dpa reported.

The 2004 junior world champion Ishii defeated Uzbekistan's Abdullo Tangriev by yuko in the final. Cuba's Oscar Brayson earned a bronze thanks to a defeat of Iran's Mohammad Reza Rodaki by waza-ari while France's Teddy Riner beat Lasha Gujejiani by ippon to also take a bronze.

In the women's event, three-time world champion Tong overcame defending Olympic champion Tsukada in the final by ippon with just eight seconds remaining.

Cuba's Idalys Ortiz defeated Tserenkhand Dorjgotov of Mongolia, also by ippon, to claim a bronze medal while in the other match for bronze Slovenia's Lucija Polavder edged South Korea's Kim Nayoung by koka.

The two finals concluded the judo competition at this year's Games.
