Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 22 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /

The investigation into the case over the stabbing of Azerbaijani pop singer, Faig Agayev is close to completion.

The criminal case will be submitted to the Heinous Crimes Court for consideration on Dec.27, Nasimi Police Department Investigation Group head Asif Behbudov told Trend.

Passengers in an Audi, registered 10-FA-222 and driven by Agayev, got into an argument with the driver and his passengers of a VAZ-2107 in the Nasimi district of Baku on the morning of Sept. 27.The cause of dispute was the reluctance of drivers to give way to each other. Agayev and his two bodyguards were seriously injured as a result of the incident.

Following the attack, the Nasimi District Court decided to detain the suspects in the case for preventative measures. Rufat Melikov faces detention for three months, while the second suspect, Seymur Mammadov, is in custody for two months.

The court prolonged Mammadov's confinement for an extra month given the terms under which he was arrested.

Melikov was charged under Articles 126.2.1 of the Criminal Code:" The deliberate causing of serious harm to health, harm endangering human life, concerning two or more persons; or the repeated or premeditated arrangement by groups of persons, by organized group or criminal community [organization]"); 126.2.4: The "Deliberate causing of serious harm to health, that is harm dangerous to human life; hooliganism", 221.3: hooliganism committed with the application of a weapon or objects, used as a weapon. The charge against Mammadov came under Articles 221.2.1: hooliganism committed by group of persons.

Charges under Article 221.3 were also leveled against a third suspect involved in the incident, Natavan Sharifova, a mother of 2, who gave a written undertaking not to leave her place of residence.

Behbudov said  Sharifiva faces further charges under Article 221.2.1 given a prior conviction.
