In a telephone conversation with Kazakh Foreign Minister, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference emphasized that he pins great hopes on the chairmanship of Astana.

"OIC has great expectations from the forthcoming Kazakhstan's leadership in the organization," OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said.

Kazakhstan gained the annual presidency in the Organization of Islamic Conference in 2011. OIC is the largest Muslim international intergovernmental organization comprising 57 Muslim countries. OIC was established in 1969 at the initiative of Saudi Arabia.

The telephone conversation between Ihsanoglu and Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev was held on Monday, the ministry said.

The sides discussed urgent issues of the OIC activity. The situation in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the summit of the organization scheduled for March in Sharm el-Sheikh became the important themes.

The two sides agreed to continue the concrete and close cooperation within the Organization and on international issues.

Ihsanoglu also congratulated Kazakhstan and President Nazarbayev with fruitful chairmanship in the OSCE in 2010, especially with successful holding the Astana summit of the organization last December.
