The winners of Eurovision 2011 song contest Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal have today laid a wreath at the monument to the national leader Heydar Aliyev in a park named after him.

The winners of Eurovision 2011 song contest Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal have today laid a wreath at the monument to the national leader Heydar Aliyev in a park named after him.

Eldar Gasimov in an interview with journalists called their victory at this contest as the Azerbaijani people's victory.

"We are glad about our victory. It is not only our victory, but also a victory of the whole Azerbaijani people. We are grateful to everyone for their support," he said.
The event was organized by the Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Ministry. It was attended by the Deputy Minister Intigam Babayev.

Azerbaijani duo Eldar and Nigar which represented the country with the song "Running Scared" returned to Baku this night.

The 56th Eurovision song contest's motto was "Feel Your Heart Beat!" As a result of sms-voting and the decision of jury winner is Azerbaijani duo Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell / Nikki) with the song "Running Scared" (221 points). Italy / Raphael Gualazzi - "Madness Of Love" (189 points) ranked second, while the third was Sweden / Eric Saade - "Popular" (185 points).

Azerbaijan received the highest score - 12 points from Russia, Turkey and Malta. Azerbaijan took 10 points from Ukraine, Greece, Croatia, San Marino, Romania and Moldova.
