Iran increases funding allocated for Birjand-Younesi railway line

The amount of funds allocated for the construction of the Birjand-Younesi railway line in the South Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) has been increased to 600 billion rials (about $14.2 million) in Iran’s budget for current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director General for South Khorasan Province Roads and Urban Development Department Vahid Daee said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

Meanwhile, in Iran’s budget for last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), the figure stood at 290 billion rials (about $6.9 million), Daee said.

According to him, the length of the Birjand-Younesi railway line is 271 kilometers, of which 88 km is in Razavi Khorasan Province, while 183 km in South Khorasan Province.

The director general also added that the length of the Zahedan-Birjand-Mashhad railway line is 901 kilometer, of which about 421 km is located in South Khorasan Province.

The Birjand-Younesi railway line is part of a bigger Zahedan-Birjand-Mashhad railway line, which interlinks Sistan and Baluchestan Province, South Khorasan Province and Razavi Khorasan Province.
