Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 May / corr. Trend U. Ismayilova/ The cancellation of subsidies and introduction of privileges in providing over machinery, equipment, and herbicides to the farmers can contribute to the drop in the foodstuff prices in Azerbaijan, said Gubad Ibadoglu, the head of the Economic Research Center NGO. Subsidies worth AZN80mln have been allocated for farmers from 2008 state budget.
According to Ibadoglu, the expansion of authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture can also contribute to the drop in consumer goods. The Phytosanitary Control and Land-Reclamation Service should be under the authority of the Ministry.
Last week, the price of bread increased from AZN0.30 up to AZN0.40. The rise in price was necessitated by the ban on the grain export by Kazakhstan till September 2008, to protect its own domestic market from the rise in price of grain all over the world.
