In January-August Azerbaijani consumer market increases by over 8 percent

In January-August, consumer goods worth 7.5 billion manat were sold to Azerbaijan's population. This index is higher by 8.4 percent than the index of the same period in 2008, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said on Sept.10.

During this period, the population bought food worth 4.9 billion manat and nonfood - 2.6 billion manat. The growth per year for these indicators amounted to 10.9 percent and 3.3 percent respectively.

Some 15.4 percent of the total turnover fell on legal entities, 41.9 percent - private entrepreneurs and 42.7 percent were sold at fairs and markets.

In January-August, people were also provided paid services worth 2.4 billion manat, or 12.6 percent more than in January-August 2008. Some 80.1 percent of this amount fell to legal entities, 19,9 percent - to individuals, the growth of which in 2009 were 13.4 percent and 9.5 percent respectively.

On Sept.10, the official exchange rate is 0.8034 AZN/USD.
