Over 9.354 million tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2012), a 13.9 percent rise compared to the figure in the same period of the preceding year, IRNA quoted Iranian Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh as saying.
About 92 percent of the goods were transited by road and 8 percent by rail. The transited consignments mostly consisted of construction materials, cotton, home appliances, vehicles, foodstuff and fertilizers, the official pointed out.
The highest amounts of the transited goods were imported and exported via Bandar Abbas and Bandar Emam ports, both in the south of the country.
Previously, Afandizadeh said that more than 100 countries are currently transiting their goods via Iran.
