The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects the Azerbaijani state budget to reach a surplus in 2018.
According to the IMF latest statistics, Azerbaijan's state budget revenues are expected to reach 26.242 billion manat, while expenses - 25.740 billion manat in 2018. Thus, IMF predicts that the state budget surplus will amount to 502 million manat.
The IMF forecasts a deficit of the state budget in the amount of 211 million manat (with income worth 25.207 billion manat, expenditures - 25.418 billion manat) in 2017.
The IMF’s forecasts are more optimistic than those of the Azerbaijani government. The government approved revenues of the state budget-2017 in the amount of 16.766 billion manat, while expenses - 17.941 billion manat. As a result, the government expects a deficit in the amount of 725 million manat.

The IMF office was opened in Baku in 1992. In 1995-2005, the Fund allocated loans worth $577.3 million to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan fully repaid the loans.
Azerbaijan joined the World Bank Group in 1992.
