Baku, Azerbaijan, April 26
By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:
Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the General Motors Uzbekistan are discussing the possibility of signing a Special Investment Contract on the GM platform in Saint-Petersburg, Russian Interfax news agency reported.
The news agency noted that the company was offered an agreement on semi knocked down assembly of several Chevrolet models in Saint-Petersburg.
Russian media earlier reported that the GM facility in the Russian city hasn’t been operating since 2015. The Russian ministry offered capacities of the GM factory to Uzbek Uzavtosanoat machinery enterprise.
“Uzbekistan has a great deal of interest towards the GM facility. But we have some other offers on this factory as well. German BMW and Belarus Unison are also interested,” the governor of Saint-Petersburg said.
It was reported on April 25 that Russian UAZ and Uzbek Uzavtosanoat may begin joint assembly of Russian cars in Uzbekistan.
