Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 5
By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:
Due to the unprecedented decline in precipitation in Iran over the past water year, energy produced at the hydropower plants in the country reached 7,738 gigawatts (GW) from the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) until Dec. 1, and this is a 40 percent decline compared to the same period last year, Trend reports citing Director of the Iranian Hydropower Plants Management Center Farbod Estiri as saying.
He said that the potential of the hydropower plants in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman is more than 85 percent, IRIB reported.
He noted that the water demand in Karun, Karkha and Marun water dams from the beginning of the year has so far reached about 14 billion cubic meters, and, compared to the same period last year, the demand grew 15 percent.
“In accordance with the implemented programs, repair work will be carried out at 127 hydropower plants with capacity of 12,010 MW and two hydropower plants of 1 MW each were transferred to a contractor company,” he said.
Repair work is underway at 18 hydropower plants with capacity of 2,272 MW, he noted.
Repair work at 74 hydropower plants of 5,833 MW has been completed, and the repair work at 36 hydropower plants of 3,904 MW will be completed by the end of the year, he added.
