Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 4
By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:
Lately, saffron prices have decreased by 20 million rials in Iran, Gulamreza Miri, the deputy chairman of Iran's National Saffron Council, said in an interview with Young Journalists Club.
He noted that presently, saffron prices per kilo vary between 55 million rials and 100 rials on Iranian market.
The price decrease is related to the ongoing saffron harvesting, but we cannot precisely forecast the prices after the harvest, Miri said.
Saffron harvesting will continue till the end of the 9th months of the current Iranian year (started March 21), Miri said, adding that this year's saffron output is expected to be between 300,000 and 350,000 tons.
Referring to Iran's Customs Administration, he noted that Iran exported 120 tons of saffron during the first seven months of the current Iranian year.
For comparison, he added, there has been a 40-percent increase in terms of weight and 43 percent in terms of value, compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year.
