Iran’s exporting 1kg of saffron is equivalent to the export value of 10-15 barrels of oil, deputy chairman of Iran’s National Saffron Council Gholamreza Miri said in an interview with the Young Journalists Club (YJC), Trend reports.
Considering that the saffron harvest will continue until the end of this Iranian month (started November 22), it is safe to say that this year the volume of production will also increase, he said.
“There is no necessary infrastructure for exports,” he noted. “It is possible to increase the export of saffron through the creation of infrastructure and product branding. Thus, we won’t need revenues from oil exports.”
He added that many countries like China use saffron as medicine.
Therefore, advertising in Iranian saffron export markets will greatly help this product to become an alternative to oil revenues, he said.
