Australia hopes to return to trade turnover worth $1 billion with Iran, said Australia's Trade Commissioner to Iran Mounir Sankary, Trend reports via ILNA.

He reminded that this trade turnover value was observed in the 90s. He added that mining sector, in which Iran cooperates with the CIS countries, can be a suitable option for Australian companies.

“Australian companies are well aware that Iran has a market that employs around 400 million people,” he said. “In particular, Australian companies can use Iran’s potential in the sphere of pharmaceutical products and export them to Iran’s neighboring countries.”

Last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 20, 2019), Iran exported 14,300 tons of goods worth $31.8 million to Australia. During that period, Iran imported 79,200 tons of products worth $144.3 million from Australia.
