EU and Uzbekistan eye to expand scope of co-op

The European Union (EU) and Uzbekistan discussed expanding the scope of cooperation and cover such sectors as digital economy, education, eco-innovative development of the Aral Sea region and the investment climate Trend reports referring to the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.

On October 19, the third meeting of the Subcommittee between Uzbekistan and the European Union (EU) on Development Cooperation was held. The event was organized by the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The main objective of the third meeting of the subcommittee was to identify and discuss the lessons learned from the implementation of the Multi-Year Indicative Program 2014-2020, as well as the priorities of the Government of Uzbekistan in relation to current and medium-term reforms.

Today, the European Union is implementing its activities in Uzbekistan within the framework of the Multi-Year Indicative Program for 2014-2020 with a total value of €168 million and the main directions of development such as agriculture and rural development.

In the next program cycle, the participants proposed to expand the scope of cooperation and cover such areas as the digital economy, education, eco-innovative development of the Aral Sea region and the investment climate.

“Team Europe initiatives will be a key feature of the new program. These are flagship programs in which the EU and member states join forces in order to create expanded programs to have a greater impact on development,” Rinaldi noted.
