Iran shares data of rice imports

Iran imported a total of 582,000 tons of rice, during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), the Secretary of the Rice Importers Association Masih Keshavarz told Trend.

The secretary noted that 172,000 tons of rice were imported by the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC), while about 410,000 tons by the private sector.

“Meanwhile, in the last Iranian year (March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021), Iran imported a total of 857,000 tons of rice. Of this, 274,000 tons were imported by the GTC, while 583,000 tons by the private sector,” he added.

Keshavarz also said that however, Iran had imported 1.65 million tons of rice in the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2019, through March 19, 2020).

The official stressed that looking back over the past decade (March 20, 2011, through March 20, 2021), Iran has imported an average of 1.43 million tons of rice a year.
