BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. Iran's shrimp catch from the part of the Persian Gulf in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran) decreased by 25 percent during 40 days (August 8 through September 16, 2023), compared with the same time last year, Director General of the Bushehr Province Fisheries Department Aqil Amini said, Trend reports.
The director general noted that 980 tons of shrimp were caught from the Persian Gulf in Bushehr Province within the mentioned 40 days.
Meanwhile, in the same period last year, the figure stood at 1,300 tons, he added.
According to Amini, in general, 653 vessels and boats were used for shrimp catching in Bushehr Province during the specified period.
The official also pointed out that overall, 9,000 fishermen have participated in the shrimp catching for the reporting period.
On average, shrimp production in Iran exceeds 60,000 tons per year. Iran aims to increase shrimp production to 160,000 tons by 2028.
Also, Iran plans to increase annual fishery production to more than 1.4 million tons until 2028.
