Kazakh Foreign Minister: Kazakhstan Sees Great Potential for Increase in Trade with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Kazakhstan sees a great potential for extension of direct economic relations between producers, increase in trade with Azerbaijan, Kazakh Foreign Minister, Marat Tajin, said in an exclusive interview.

In 2006, the goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan increased by some 65% making up $233mln, compared to2005.

"I would like stress that all the available opportunities in trade and economic filed have not been enabled," the Minister said.

According to him, a priority direction in non-oil field is cooperation with Azerbaijan, in particular in agriculture, construction industry, production and sale of food and drinks, engineering equipment, services etc.

"Within the prospective projects is the possible laying of an optic-fiber line from Aktau to Baku along the bed of the Caspian Sea, which will essentially make it easy for Kazakhstan to enter the European telecommunication area and vice versa, for the European countries Caucasus to China and Asian-Pacific Region," Tajin said.

According to the Minister, another prospective field in inter-regional cooperation is border trade, within the framework of which it would be possible to provide for supplies of fruits and vegetables, berries, melons and gourds from Azerbaijan to the western parts of Kazakhstan in order to provide the region with more available vegetables and fruits более доступными овощами и фруктами.
