Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / Azerbaijan Economic Development Ministry is to employ a foreign consultant who will organize a tender for a contractor to construct and manage the garbage-processing plant, the head of the Investment Policy Department of the Economic Development Ministry, Askar Alakbarov, reported on 27 August.
According to him, the Finish company Poyri held a preliminary estimation of three companies, namely Japan EBARA, Austrian EVN and French CNIM. "Now we are to provide full technical specification for the project. On its basis a tender will be announced within two months," he said. At present the terms are being discussed with the consultant and the contract is expected to be signed within a month.
Subsequently the consultant will hold preliminary research work on the volumes of domestic waste produced in the Absheron Peninsula and Baku city.
According to Alakbarov, the project will be financed by the State, and participation of the Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) is not planned. "AIC usually takes part in commercially attractive projects, but we are discussing a plant which is to be financed by the public budget," he noted.
In accordance with the proposals of the companies specializing in that field, construction of the garbage processing plant will take two or three years. It will be managed by the company to be attracted through a tender, but the time is not known yet
According to the official data, 775,000 tons of domestic waste is collected annually within Baku and it suburbs.
