Kazakhstan, Astana, Feb. 12 / Trend , K.Konirova /
In April 2009, a summit of world leaders will be held in London to address future low hydrocarbon use, UK Embassy Consul to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Paul Brammel told Trend .
"A working group headed by UK businessmen will deliver a report on the issue," Brammel said.
UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown said a way out of the global financial crisis must be found at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He added that an international consensus must be reahed involving low hydrocarbon use.
"If we do not reduce emissions by 2050, we will face a humanitarian and economic catastrophe. The catastrophe will be worse than the global crisis," Brown said.
"Brown's address means low hydrocarbon use is an urgent political necessity. Climate change is not a problem that can be delayed. We already feel its effects and it will only grow in the future," the consul said.
The transfer to low hydrocarbon use will also help overcome the crisis, Brammel said.
"Low hydrocarbon use is an integral part of the energy cooperation between Britain and Kazakhstan. We work with the Kazakh government to maintain efforts to develop and implement a legal framework for energy efficiency and renewable energy sources," he said.
